This tour offers the chance to play golf in Kathmandu and Pokhara in Nepal, and in Thimpu in Bhutan.
In Kathmandu we will play two of the city’s fine golf courses, Gokarna Forest and the Royal Nepal Golf Club. The Royal Nepal Golf Club is the oldest course in the country, having been founded in 1917, while the course at Gokarna Forest is one of the finest in South Asia, beautifully set in a 470 acre forest which was once the private hunting grounds of Nepalese kings.
A highlight of our tour is a round at the Himalayan Golf Club, located outside the picturesque town of Pokhara. This remarkable course is located in a river canyon set against the backdrop of the Annapurna mountains, with many holes requiring you to hit across or alongside the churning Bijaypur river.
In Bhutan we visit the Royal Thimpu Golf Club, perhaps the most remote golf course in the world. Set above the Trashi Chhoe Dzong, this course is rarely visited by foreigners and offers a unique and unforgettable experience.
Bhutan and Nepal obviously have far more to offer than just golf. In Kathmandu we will visit the famous stupas (explain stupa) of Swayambhunath and Bodnath, and the fascinating temple architecture of Durbar Square. Weather permitting, you can look forward to a morning mountain flight where you can see stunning panoramic views of the imposing Himalayan peaks, including the mighty Everest.
Pokhara is a place of remarkable beauty, situated on the shore of tranquil Phewa Tal, with the Annapurna mountains in the background. during our stopover ther will be time available for you to take part in any number of activities, perhaps trekking in the mountains, taking a thrilling microlight or paragliding flight, birdwatching in the tropical forest, or maybe just relaxing at the hotel.
Bhutan, “Land of the Thunder Dragon”, is a stunning country full of magical sights. Here you can enjoy an unforgettable trip to the most famous of Bhutan’s monasteries, Taktshang Goemba. Known as ‘the tigers nest’, this monastery sits on the side of a cliff, 900 metres above the Paro valley floor and is guaranteed to take your breath away.
ITINERARY
Day 1 – Meet in the departure hall at Heathrow far a flight to Kathmandu with Qatar Airways via Doha.
Day 2 - Transfer to Le Meridien Gokarna Forest Golf Resort & Spa. The afternoon is free with a sightseeing excursion in the evening. Dinner at Le Meridien. L D
Day 3 - 18 holes at the Gokarna Forest golf course in the morning. Afternoon of sightseeing around Kathmandu including Durbar square and Swoyambhunath stupa. B L
Day 4 - Early morning mountain flight with a chance to see Everest, followed by 18 holes at the Royal Nepal Golf Club. Afternoon free for you to do as you wish. Dinner at the Krishnarpan Restaurant in Kathmandu. B L D
Day 5 - Optional 18 holes at Gokarna Forest in the morning, followed by flight to Pokhara. After transferring to the Shangri-La Village Resort the rest of the day is free. B L D
Day 6 - 18 holes at the Himalayan Golf Club in the morning, with sightseeing activities in the afternoon. B L
Day 7 - Day free for guests to sample the activities which are available such as trekking, paragliding or bird watching. B D
Day 8 - Return to the Himalayan Club to compete in the Remote Golf Open, a light hearted tournament over 36 holes. B L D
Day 9 - Morning hike to the World Peace Pagoda, after which we will return to Kathmandu, staying at the Hyatt Regency Kathmandu. B L D
Day 10 - Fly from Kathmandu to Paro, Bhutan. Transfer to Thimpu, and visit the Trashi Chhoe Dzong in the afternoon. B L D
Day 11 - 18 holes at the Royal Thimpu Golf Club, followed by an afternoon excursion to various sites around Thimpu. B L D
Day 12 - A second round at Royal Thimpu Golf Club, followed by return to Paro. Afternoon visit to Paro Dzong and the National Museum. B L D
Day 13 - Visit to Taktshang Goemba, commonly known as the ‘tiger’s nest’ monastery. In the afternoon we will visit some additional religious sites in the Paro valley. B L D
Day 14 - Return to Kathmandu in the morning, staying overnight at Le Meridien Gokarna Forest Golf Resort & Spa. Option of a final 18 holes at the Gokarna Forest course in the afternoon. B L D
Day 15 - Morning flight back to London with Qatar Airways. B
